Starbucks vs. Peet’s Holiday Drink Showdown

Claire Marvin and Kate Laughton

Staffers Claire Marvin and Kate Laughton go head to head in a holiday drink showdown. Claire argues for Starbucks, while Kate argues for Peet’s.

Peppermint Mocha

Claire: Sweet is always in! Starbucks combination of cool peppermint, sweet chocolate and a hint of coffee is sure to leave any holiday drink-lover singing “‘tis the season.”

Kate: This drink tastes like a peppermint hot chocolate with a bite of coffee. It isn’t too sweet and sugary like a Starbucks drink usually is, but fulfills your holiday caffeination needs.

Gingerbread Latte

Claire: Who can resist the smell of gingerbread? Starbucks successfully combines this favorite holiday treat with hot milk and espresso to create a drink sure to please any gingerbread connoisseur.

Kate: The Cinnamon Gingerbread Latte, a mix of gingerbread spice, espresso, cinnamon, and steamed milk, is a perfect drink for a cold winter day. This drink also contains fewer calories, sugar, and fat than that of a starbucks gingerbread latte.

Pumpkin Spice Latte

Claire: The classic PSL! Cinnamon, nutmeg and clove spice up this holiday favorite. For the full delicious effect, order whipped cream on top, curl up with a blanket and instantly become transported to your happy place.

Kate: This drink is just like a vanilla latte but with spice flavoring to it. It’s only mildly sweet,  and tastes great on a cold day. For all you chai lovers, Peet’s has a Pumpkin Chai option to spice up your needs.

Eggnog Latte

Claire: A Starbucks classic since 1986, with a dreamy combination of espresso and delicately spiced eggnog, the eggnog latte never fails to bring holiday cheer.

Kate: This drink has a sweet thick flavor of eggnog but is equal to the amount of coffee in the drink. When ordering, make sure to get nonfat milk, so it’s less thick and more sweet.

Salted Caramel Mocha

Claire: Smooth chocolate, energizing espresso, caramel drizzle and a pinch of sea salt. What more could you want in a drink?

Kate: This very sweet mocha has a nice touch of caramel flavor. The salty topping gives the drink the perfect amount of sweetness and savory.
