Bob’s Christmas Trees Serves Community

For over a hundred years, the Christmas tree has been an integral part of holiday tradition. For many, the fresh, piney smell of a real tree is something that their Christmas just wouldn’t be complete without. If you’re planning on getting a tree this year, and you live in the Orinda-Moraga area, it’s likely that you’re going to be visiting Bob’s Christmas Trees.

Started in 1976 by Bob Holland, the business’ owner and namesake, Bob’s Christmas Trees has been in business for almost 40 years now.  Bob’s is located in Moraga, right in front of the Safeway parking lot.

At first glance, you may be overwhelmed with the wide selection of trees available. Bob’s most popular trees are the Noble firs, but Douglas firs, Grand firs, Nordman firs and Silvertip firs are also for sale. Trees are available in a variety sizes ranging from very small to very large.

If the look of a natural tree is too boring for you, you can also have your tree covered in flocking, a white snow-like material that provides wintery aesthetics while also making your tree fire retardant. In addition to Christmas trees, Bob’s sells wreaths, garland and tree stands. You may even get some free mistletoe if you buy a tree.

For students like senior Nora Conklin, going to Bob’s has become an every-year thing. “I’ve been going to Bob’s for the past five years, my Dad and I go every year to pick a tree. It’s a great family tradition, and the cast of characters at Bob’s never fails to entertain.”

Over the years, Holland has certainly made an impact on the community, its older members in particular. For those who aren’t able to haul a tree home themselves, Bob’s offers a tree delivery service. A service that Holland says many elderly people utilize.

“There’s a lot of older people in Moraga,” Holland said,”It’s very gratifying for me. I’ve made a lot of friends in the area.”

Every year, Holland also donates money to local schools and gives trees away to charities.
