Tuesday Dec. 8, Miramonte students were repeatedly disrupted by fire alarms going off during third period. The source of the alarm was a sprinkler head between the art room and theater that broke from the subfreezing temperatures the night before.

Acalanes Union High School District maintenance workers along with the fire department arrived at the scene to diagnose the problem.

“The fire department came to shut off the water,” said Associate Principal Jan Carlson. “We could not reset the alarm system until the water was turned off. The fire department had to cut a lock to get to the pipe.”

The following Wednesday a vendor from the sprinkler system maker arrived at school to repair the water main and reset the fire alarms.

“Students and staff were very cooperative and good natured during the evacuation and we greatly appreciate that,” said Carlson.
