On Friday, Oct. 5, police arrested Nicholas Daniel Kalustian for suspicion of illegal sexual interactions with a minor.

Kalustian, 22, was the Acalanes High School girls’ junior varsity volleyball coach. The student involved does not attend Acalanes, but she was under 18.

“It’s a really unfortunate situation because he was the sweetest coach and I don’t know anybody who didn’t like him,” said an Acalanes student.

He was placed on administrative leave from Acalanes, and informed he is not allowed on campus grounds. He was also an aide at Burton Valley Elementary where he was also placed on leave.

Kalustian was arrested Friday morning, and taken to the Martinez Detention facility where a $100,000 bail was posted for his release. Police would not say where they arrested him.

Someone allegedly contacted the school, and informed them of Kalustian’s relationship and the school then called the police.  According to a student, other students knew about the relationship but didn’t think much of it.

Kalustian was arrested after a police investigation of his inappropriate relationship with a female student. The relationship is said to have lasted for over a year.
