Miramonte Players Spring Musical Debuts Thursday

Christian Santiago, Staff Writer

The Miramonte Players will debut their Spring Musical tomorrow at 4 p.m. in the Miramonte Theater. From March 12-15, they will be performing the Tony Award winning musical “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” in the Miramonte Theatre.

The musical is about a small county and their annual Spelling Bee, run by three quirky grown-ups and six equally quirky kids. What sets this musical apart, however, is that actual  members of the audience are called up to be part of the spelling bee.

“We screen audience members before the show and I personally pick them if they are the right choice,” Director Heather Cousins said. “If they spell the word wrong, they sit down. If they spell the word right, they stay. And if they stay, we incorporate them into the musical numbers and have fun with them.”

The musical stars Juniors Max Hunt, Eleanor Roader, Andy Tobin and Senior Maritza Grillo, all whom you may have seen in other Miramonte Players productions lie “The Arabian Nights” and “Shrek, The Musical.” Tickets will be on sale at the door or for purchase on the Miramonte website. Thursday’s show will start at 4 p.m., and performances on Friday, Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday’s will be at 2 p.m.
