Women’s Golf Ends Year with Strong Performance

Miramonte women’s golf finished their best season in Miramonte history, finishing sixth out of 19 in NCS at Baywood Golf and Country Club in Arcata.

Team captain Laura Howard ‘10 led the way with an 88.  Others who contributed were Jessica Goldstein ‘12 with a 91, Liza Katz ‘11 who shot a 93, Kelsey Williams ‘11 who shot a 97, and Faith Engstrom ‘11 who finished it off with a 101.

Miramonte women’s golf won the DFAL title for the third straight year in a row on Monday, Oct. 19 at Lone Tree Hill Golf Course in Antioch.  Led by Howard and Williams, the Matadors took league with a score of 448 to second place Dougherty Valley who totaled 488.

Williams placed second in the DFAL tournament, now named the Jerry Montgomery tournament after Miramonte’s coach Jerry Montgomery who passed away last year. Willams beat out a field of 42 with a score of 83.  Williams went into the clubhouse tied for first place and ended up having to play a sudden-death playoff on the 18th hole where she lost by one stroke to Dougherty Valley’s Camille Armas.

Other notable players who contributed to the Matadors’ win were Howard, who shot an 88, Engstrom who shot a 90, Goldstein who shot a 93, and Katz who shot a 94.

After a very successful season, the Lady Mats finished the season 11-1.
