Ladies’ Tennis Continues to Excel Entering NCS

After a very successful season, Women’s Tennis is looking confidently towards its upcoming championships. This season the team won a total of 25 matches out of 28, and went undefeated in their league. Most notably, the Lady Mats won 8-1 against Acalanes on Oct. 7, 7-2 against Dougherty Valley on Oct. 12, and 6-3 against Campolindo on Oct. 19.

Out of the 108 individual matches played during league games, the team lost only 12, ranking them far above any of the other teams in the league.

“[The season has gone] pretty well for the amount of people who graduated last year,” said assistant team captain Hanne Andersen ‘12.

The team is finished competing in league games, and won overall in the DFAL league championships. They have yet to compete in the DFAL individual championships and NCS championships.

“It’s really hard to predict what the outcome will be [in the] DFAL individuals because we’re switching up who’s playing singles and doubles,” said Andersen.

However, the team is confident about the upcoming NCS championships. “We expect to go pretty far as a team in the NCS championships,” said team captain Alyssa Wendt ‘11.

The girls all seem to agree that the team is more cohesive than it has been in previous years.

“The doubles players [specifically] have a lot of different strengths this year and they have figured out how to work well as a team,” Andersen.

Even with 11 graduating seniors on the team, the Lady Mats are confident that they will continue to be a very strong team next year.

“We will definitely miss the talents and personalities of the graduating seniors, but we have four new incoming players that are very strong,” said Andersen.
