This year, the Lady Mats golf team had a spectacular season. They were a perfect 14-0 after a four stroke win against Campo on Oct. 12. That was their closest match; the rest were dominating performances by the team as a whole, leading to the DFAL championship.

In the four years that this year’s senior class has been on the team, they have only lost once, to Dougherty Valley, who they beat this year.

“We are a really good team all around. Our underclassmen and upperclassmen both contribute to our success as a whole,” said co-captain Liza Katz ‘11.

In a recent tournament at Lone Tree Golf Course, the team placed first, with standout performances from co-captain Kelsey Williams ‘11, who shot an 83, and Jessica Goldstein ‘12, who shot an 86. Rounding out the top five performances for the team were Katz, who shot a 99, Tori Hoff ‘14, who shot a 100 and Lucy O’Melveny ‘11, who shot a 103.

The team is very balanced, so they are able to do well in team competitions because most of the team members contribute.

“We also have really good team chemistry. We get along well so there are never any major conflicts,” said Katz.

NCS was held at Lone Tree on Nov. 1, and the team had a bye in the qualification tournament due to their outstanding play during the season. Last year, the team placed sixth in NCS, and this year they managed to finish eighth.

“We didn’t really play our best at NCS, but I think overall we had a really good season,” said Katz.

Although the Lady Mats may suffer from the loss of five seniors, the team still has a bright future with their young and talented players.
