49ers: I would say the 49ers had a decent draft. I’ll be the first to admit that I was very surprised when the 49ers used their pick on Missouri DE Aldon Smith. Like many Niner fans, I was hoping for Patrick Peterson, but those of you who thought Smith was a waste of a pick are very uneducated regarding current Niner personnel. In recent years they have had very subpar pass rushing, and while Smith might not be the answer, he could also be worth the risk. Last year at Missouri, Smith did not total many sacks because of his broken leg, but when he was healthy, Smith was a force. The Niners will ask Smith to stand and play outside linebacker in their 3-4 scheme, but I think he has the athleticism to succeed and possibly be an impact player quickly. Their next pick was Colin Kaepernick, the dual threat QB from Nevada. I was originally suspect to the idea that he could play QB at the next level, but after I watched a little analysis, I think Kaepernick could be a playmaker, in a few years. He has an unusual release, but he still gets rid of the ball quickly, and has a cannon for an arm. Once he learns the nuances of the position Kaepernick could become the QB of the future for the team. The rest of the Niners draft was decent, but I think the Niners did a good job overall of addressing their needs.

Raiders: I was actually impressed with the Raiders draft this year. I’ll talk about my two favorite picks, Stefen Wisniewski, the G/C from Penn State and Taiwan Jones, the RB from Eastern Washington. The Raiders needed line help, and although he is undersized, Wisniewski brings a lot of toughness to the position and will probably be solid for years to come. Jones was probably my favorite Raider pick, and lets be honest, did anyone think the Raiders would pass on this blazer? He played subpar competition at Eastern Washington, but nobody can argue with his 4.3 speed in the 40. He flew below the radar because of his school’s low profile, but Jones would have been more highly recruited out of high school if it wasn’t for a learning disability. Even though the Raiders are pretty set at running back, I think Jones could be one of the steals of this years draft.
