Miramonte Defeats Acalanes

Miramonte picked up a big win against Acalanes 21-14 last Friday. This is their first victory in league after a 0-2 start.

Miramonte set the tempo early by controlling the ground game. They jumped to a 14-0 lead from a 7-yard run by Connor Bruen ’13 and 3-yard sneak by Nick Sheehan ’13.

However, it was a big passing play from Sheehan to Marshall Deutz ’13 that separated the Matadors from the Dons. On third down, Sheehan dumped the ball off to Deutz who maneuvered through defenders and broke out for 90-yard touchdown.

Acalanes fought back and scored 14 unanswered points, but it wasn’t enough as Miramonte held the lead and claimed the victory.

“People expected us to lose. Nobody gave us a chance except our coaches,” said Mac Lavis ’14.

“We believed, fought hard, and came out with the win. It was sweet.”

Miramonte does not play this week as it is their bye week, but you can catch them back in action the following week against Dougherty Valley.
