The women’s lacrosse team had their first week of scrimmages and games this past week. Playing at home against Bishop O’Dowd on Feb. 25 and San Ramon Valley on March 1, the lacrosse team got their feet wet in preparation for the upcoming season.

Seniors captains Lauren Dougherty, Julia Govan and Maddy Bush, lacrosse team led their team to victory against Bishop O’Dowd. With goals made by Dougherty, Hannah Friel ‘14 and other players, the Lady Mats won 13-0.

On March 1 however, the Division II Mats struggled against Division I San Ramon Valley. Starting out strong, the lacrosse team stuck with San Ramon Valley at 2-2 in the first quarter. As the game progressed, and San Ramon kept draining goals, the Mats accepted defeat with a final score of 5-10.

“The captains led the team well that night. Even though we didn’t win, they knew how to keep our heads in the game,” Kady Richardson ‘14 said.

The women’s lacrosse team plays at Berkeley High tomorrow. This will be an exciting game to watch because last year the Lady Mats won 16-15 with a final goal made within the last few seconds of the game.
