Baseball Finishes Up Non-League

It was a slow week for the Mats this week who played only one game, which was a 7-0 loss to Analy.                                                                                                                                                                James Vaccaro ‘16 started the game for the Mats and got off to a bit of a rough start giving up one run in the first inning, and three in the second. He picked it up after the rough start, and threw a few scoreless innings before Cameron Nikban ‘14 came in to close the game, who gave up three runs.                                                                                                                                                               The Mats could amass only four hits in the loss, and also committed two costly errors.                                                                                                                                                                                                “I cant put this game on the pitchers. They probably gave up more runs than we would like, but we still have to score more runs and take some pressure off the pitchers. Our run support so far hasn’t been very good,” Bennet Stehr ‘14 said.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      The Mats are now 3-3-1, and while it is not the start the team envisioned the players are not discouraged.                                                                                                                                                      “After a slow start to the season we’re trying to redefine ourselves as a team. Yesterday’s loss was not the start we were hoping for, but despite the final score I thought we showed a lot of improvement. We’ve got a team this year that wants to win. And we’re going to do whatever it takes to get that done. We’re going to continue to play with a lot of heart and the wins will follow,” George McConnell ’13 said.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          Non-league games are over now for the Mats, as league starts next week with games against Dublin, and rival Campo.
