After finishing off the regular season with a final record of 23-0, the Miramonte tennis team headed into the post-season tournaments poised to repeat their success from last year at DFALs and NCS.

“A lot of our wins are because of incredible depth in our talent and also incredible team chemistry,” Andrew Tan ‘13 said. “Teammate support has saved us in matches countless times when our morale is lacking.”

At DFALs, Miramonte rolled through the early rounds, setting up an all Miramonte final in both singles and doubles play. Luke Bohuslav ‘13, the No. 1 seed, beat Alex Hwang ‘16, the No. 7 seed, 6-3, 6-1 in singles, while Neil Weikert ‘15 and Jake Martin ‘15, the No. 3 seeds, beat Logan Boersma ‘14 and Andrew Tan ‘13, the No. 1 seeds, 6-3, 5-7, 6-2 in doubles.

“It felt great for us to sweep DFAls, but also that all the guys on the team had amazing showings and were playing very well,” Bohuslav said.

Due to this success, five Miramonte players moved on to NCS. Early rounds take place today, May 3, and the finals are scheduled for tomorrow, May 4.

Bohuslav is the sole representative in the singles tournament and is seeded at No. 3, while two teams will compete in the doubles tournament. Tan and Martin are seeded at No. 1, and Weikert and Alexandr Lilichenko ‘15, who is replacing Boersma, are seeded at No. 4.

“Our goal is to repeat our success as NCS champions but we’re not going to look far down on the road,” Bohuslav said. “We’ll just take it one game at a time. Though I’m personally hoping for a NCS championship.”

“We’re going to be playing the best teams in our section so we’ll just keep our heads up and do our best,” Tan said.
