Matadors Fall to Campo

Last Friday, Sept. 27, Miramonte traveled to Campolindo to take on the Cougs. The Mats were hoping to come back from last years loss, but after a strong start, they just couldn’t hang on, and Campo won 38-10.

The Mats opened the game with a touchdown run by Rene Clark ’13 and intercepted two passes early in the first half. However, they failed to capitalize on the turnovers, which cost them valuable points, and their momentum started to waver.

The Mats had a few opportunities later to get something going but were stifled by penalties, including two that brought back two potential touchdowns.

“Those penalties really killed our momentum in the first half. When you play a team like Campo, you can’t afford to make mistakes like we did on both sides of the ball,” Rene Clark ’13 said. “Plus, you have to capitalize on their mistakes.”

At the end of the first half Campo only led 17-10, but when the second half began, they drilled Miramonte touchdown after touchdown and didn’t look back. They scored 21 points and the Mats weren’t able to score again. Campolindo moved to 6-0 on the season and 2-0 in DFAL. Miramonte is now 4-2 and 1-1 in league.

Miramonte will host their homecoming game vs. Acalanes tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Come out and support!
