The Men’s Varsity Water Polo team took 6th at the highly competitive Santa Barbara Invitational this past weekend. This tournament is one of the top tournaments during the season, with nine of ten of the Orange County Register’s top ten CIF Southern Section teams in attendance.

Miramonte started the weekend out strong, beating Orange Lutheran 17-12. In the quarterfinals, the Mats faced the 2nd seed, Mater Dei. A rough first quarter ended with Mater Dei in the lead 6-2. The Mats paced the Monarchs in the next three quarters but ultimately lost a hard fought game 12-8. However, the Matadors rebounded from the loss and put up a win against Newport Harbor 12-10. In the 5th place game, the Mats lost to Huntington Beach 8-6.

Rajeev Oak ‘15 said about the Mater Dei game, “A team has a moment when they play as one. During our game against Mater Dei we realized we could not only play at the same level as them but we also learned we could play as one.”
