Men’s Basketball Falls to Campo

Miramonte Men’s Basketball fell to Campolindo 67-51 Saturday night at Campolindo. Chris Hansen ‘15 paced the Cougars with 19 points. The Mats were led by Moneer Mujaddidi ‘15 and Jackson Wegener ‘15, with 14 and 11 points apiece.

Miramonte, backed by a raucous “6th man”, jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, but Campolindo responded with a 12-1 run to close out the first quarter. The Cougars lengthened their lead to 15 at halftime. In the third quarter, junior Ryan Anderson threw down a vicious one-handed dunk to reignite the Mats’ momentum. Two minutes later, Wegener’s 3-pointer cut the Cougar lead to four. However, Campolindo used its collective experience to its advantage and closed the game out strongly.

The Mats’ “6th man” was a big storyline. It was extremely loud and provided immense support throughout the game. “The 6th man was incredible.  Win or lose they are so much better than Campo’s and support us tremendously. The whole team appreciates them,” Wegener said.

Although Miramonte lost, there is a lot to be proud from the game. Both schools will definitely look forward to the rematch between the teams on February 17th at Miramonte, where the Mats haven’t lost to the Cougars in three years.
