Boys’ Basketball Triumphs

Twelve weeks in, the varsity boys’ basketball team is in the midst of a successful season, having won 10 of their 14 games. Co-captain of the team, Kiran Shastri ‘13 accredits the boys’ wins to their increased team chemistry and ability to work as a group. “We know what we have to do to win, and we are able to do it,” he said. “I think that’s really been reflected on our record.”
This is a great improvement over last years season, which ended with the boys winning 12 of their 26 games. The new season also ushered in a decrease in the number of seniors, and with it a larger number of juniors and sophomores. Co-captain Ross Anderson ‘12 doesn’t believe this has hindered the team. “We’re all really good friends and even though we don’t have a lot of seniors on the team, the upperclassmen and juniors definitely step up to help lead,” he said. “Everyone is pretty much equal.”
Joey Goodreault ‘14 agrees. “We’re a competitive group of individuals, but we’re a team so we play as a team,” he said.
A highlight of the season was the boys’ game versus Alhambra, which they won by 20 points. Shastri was a key player during this game, scoring 23 points and eliminating the competition.
The boys have high hopes for the rest of the season, looking to reach NCS and possibly state. “League’s going to be tough, but I think we’ll be ready,” said Anderson. “We definitely have the ability to win all of the games.”
