Baseball Nearing End Fights For NCS Bid

Drew Anderson, Staff Writer

This week the Mats suffered two losses to rivals Campolindo and Acalanes. With NCS around the corner the team is fighting to earn a bid.                                                                                                                                                                                                 Tuesday the Mats took on Campolindo at home. Campolindo’s starter Trent Shelton ’13 set the pace for the cougars, and after a few early runs the team never looked back and Miramonte ended up losing the game eleven to one. Miramonte struggled to get hits in the game.                                                                                                                                 “Its no fun to lose to your rival, but we know they are a very good team, I don’t think we gave up in the game even when they jumped out on us with the early lead” said Bennett Stehr ’14.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      Thursday the Mats traveled to Acalanes to take on their rival Dons. Matt Cobley ’13 got through a tough first inning giving up four runs, but fought hard for another three scoreless innings before being relieved. Alex Gutierrez ’14 came in and shutout the Dons for the remaining three innings. The bats never came alive for the Mats who ultimately lost six to zero.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            “This has been a tough week no doubt, but we played two really good teams, and we aren’t done. We still have a shot at NCS but we will need to win our last couple of games to earn a spot” said Alex Gutierrez.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          0As it stands the Mats record is seven and eleven, but are still eligible for the NCS tournament. Next week the Mats take on Daugherty Valley, and Albany.
