This Valentine’s season, the Choir program performed its annual “Choir Grams” and brought music and energy to classrooms. For five dollars, students had the opportunity to send a live acapella performance to friends, classmates, or that special someone. The song choices this year included: “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz, “Treasure” by Bruno Mars, and “Falling for Ya” by Grace Phipps from Teen Beach Movie.
On Wednesday, Feb. 12, choir students traveled from classroom to classroom, delivering surprise performances that left students laughing, slightly embarrassed, or singing along.
“I love Choir Grams. I liked the song selection this year and it was fun surprising my friends with Choir Grams,” junior Maddie Silveira said.
The acapella format highlighted the students’ vocal talents and allowed the program to spotlight their abilities.
“Because Choir Grams are performed in acapella, you really have to be in tune with your group and because you are performing in front of an audience you can not mess up. This puts us in an environment that pushes us to grow as singers,” sophomore and Choir student Elle Johnson said.
“A really important part of the musical arts is sharing what you do in front of other people and seeing how it connects. Choir Grams gives singers an opportunity to share and perform in front of an audience,” Choir teacher Carl Oser said.
Choir Grams served as both a unique Valentines’ Day gift and a way to highlight and fundraise for the Choir program. All proceeds will go back to the general Choir account.
The tradition of Choir Grams continues to uplift the Valentine’s season and was a great way to bring attention to the choir program.
