The Miramonte Parent Auction is said to be one of the largest fundraisers for each class, but with all of the bids on Tahoe excursions, Napa wine tasting trips, and golf cart rentals, the question is, where exactly does this money go? From March 7 to 24, parents and local businesses donated items for parents to bid, and all of the money went towards funding events like Junior Prom, Senior Ball, and Grad Night for the Class of 2026. All auctioning was done online and some items that were listed included bottles of wine, time at vacation homes, and tickets to events such as Senior Ball.
The Class of ‘25 is currently holding an auction to help support senior ball and grad night. The main items being auctioned off are VIP seats on the field, and parking tickets to Senior Ball, and the current bid is set at $1,000.
“We do many fundraisers, these fundraisers help fund senior activities, and they do not only happen at the end of the year” Kristan Mayer, member of the Parents Club, said.
The proceeds of this auction goes to the Class of 2025 financial account, where the money will likely be used for grad night or to offset graduation expenses.
The Class of 2026 recently had an auction to support Junior Prom. Some of the items that were on the auction site was a stay at a vacation home in Dordogne France, which sold for$1,500. The high bidding prices show the success of these auctions, which are put on at least once a year in support of different classes. Similar to auctions, the parents club also throws class parties for funding. Different parents volunteer to host a themed party at their residence, usually offering food and drink to those who attend. To attend the party, parents must buy tickets, usually priced at $100. These parties happen several times during the year, gradually gaining funding throughout the year. The different ways to find funding is very subtle, but over the year this money adds up so that extravagant events can be held.
“I think we are very lucky to have such great parents that will raise money so that we can have a good high school experience” Junior Ethan Cole said.
Auctions and funding organizations help fund and support activities that happen throughout the year like Junior Prom, Senior Ball, and Grad Night, and help students have a fun high school experience with assistance from parents in the Lamorinda community.
