The Lafayette Chambers Organization, in collaboration with local schools, the City of Lafayette, Lafayette Public Works, and the Lafayette Police Department, hosted a running event for education on Oct. 19. This event, held at the Lafayette Reservoir, includes three races: a 5K, 10K, and two-mile “fun run”.
The participants came from all over the Bay Area: athletes, people in their 80s and 90s who were out to get a medal, school track teams, families, and more. “We hope to build a fundraiser for our schools and the programs and services of the Lafayette Chamber,” Director of Operations of the Lafayette Chambers Hol
ly Sonne said.
Sonne also hopes to promote a healthy atmosphere for the participants. “We want this event to be an enjoyable and unique morning, promoting health and fitness in our community, all in support of our schools,” Sonne said. All participants chose which event they wanted to participate in and which school they wanted to run for.
Local organizations sponsored runners throughout the run such as on t-shirts, signs and water stations. Non-profit organizations and lifestyle fair vendors had the option to host a booth on the day of the event. A portion of all funds from advertisements go directly to the schools; they hope to exceed 2024’s donations of $37,497.95.
Local Lamorinda mom Judy Park and her daughter joined the two mile fun run this Sunday in hopes to make new memories and appeal to the family aspect of this event. “My daughter started kindergarten and we learned about it and thought it would be a really fun tradition to start together,” Park said. They hoped to finish the two mile fun run strongly and efficiently. “Our goal is to run nonstop, even if it is going very slowly together,” Park said.
The Lafayette Chambers hosts events throughout the year in partnership with other local organizations to promote the city of
Lafayette and it’s citizens. Some upcoming events are the Trick or Treat Street, which will take place on Oct. 24 and provides a mapped-out block in Lafayette for parents and their children to trick or treat safely; and the Community Thanksgiving Breakfast, taking place on Nov. 18, 2025, which invites local organizations’ leaders to join Lafayette Chambers for breakfast in festivity. The Lafayette Chambers have events planned for the rest of the year and the start of 2026.
