On Thursday, Jan. 29, the incoming first-year class from OIS walked to Miramonte to explore the campus, meet students and teachers, and receive an introduction to elective classes they can sign up for.
The eighth graders arrived at 10 a.m. and immediately headed to the cafeteria for brunch. Next, they received counseling guidance in the theater on required courses, electives and what to expect in the year to come. Also while in the theater, students saw performances from visual and performing arts (VPA) classes such as Public Speaking and Drama.
After exiting the theater, eighth graders walked into the gym for the Elective Fair to learn even more about the various electives available for them next year.
“I’m looking at Mirador and Yearbook,” eighth grader Blythe Walterspiel said. Blythe is most looking forward to the electives she will take at Miramonte and says she has had a positive experience with Miramonte so far.
VPA as well as academic elective booths were open for eighth graders to read about the class, talk to students in the class, and enjoy sweet treats such as the cookies and desserts offered at the Foods booth.
Accompanied by their assigned Link Crew groups, the eighth graders were given an experience of what going to school at Miramonte will be like and information about the classes they can choose to take. The eighth graders also had the unique opportunity to learn from the link leaders about their personal high school experience.
The students then toured the campus, led by various Link Crew leaders. Due to the disturbance it would cause, students could not enter classrooms, but they still received a full tour of the school grounds.
Finally, the eighth graders entered the theater one last time for the closing information, and began the walk back to OIS at 12 p.m.
