On Friday, April 10th, at the Matadom, the annual Power Puff game delivered a showdown between the Senior and Junior girls. It once again brought together friends, families, students, and school spirit for one of Miramonte’s most anticipated traditions.
Starting at 7 p.m., the Junior and Senior girls took the field to compete in a highly competitive game of flag football, following weeks of preparation, learning plays, and lots of practice.
“ Every few days a week we would go up to the field at lunch to practice, we learned plays and got our starting team together,” Junior Pricilla Martini said.
Members of the boys football team stepped into coaching, guiding their team from the sidelines. The juniors were led by George Gilbert, Henry Hunt, Dave Greenstone, Brooks Butler, and Johah Imberg, while the seniors were led by Justin Jalowiec, Andrew Bjornson, James Rodgers, and Leo Wampler. Both sidelines were active throughout the night, with coaches calling plays and energizing their teams.
The seniors entered the game with a strong roster, highlighted by standout players Sawyer Bohlig, a Northwestern lacrosse commit, and Sadie Leal-Schuman, a Stanford soccer commit. However, the juniors had standout player Kate Knight, who used her speed to break through the defense. “It was so fun to be out there and crush the juniors, it was our second year winning, and it made it pretty special,” Bolhig said.
As the game progressed, both teams battled back and forth in a competitive contest. The seniors responded by keeping the game close and maintaining pressure throughout. The first touchdown was from senior Inara Inesi, then junior Kate Knight tied up the game, as the game was about to go into overtime Bolhig was able to score the game winning touchdown.
Beyond the field, the atmosphere in the stands reflected how important Power Puff is. Students and parents filled the stands, cheering loudly. As the final whistle blew and the seniors began cheering for the second year, the score mattered less than the memories made. Whether it was a perfectly executed play or a missed catch, Power Puff once again proved the Miramonte support is unbreakable.
