On Tuesday, May 19, Miramonte seniors gathered in the big gym during lunch for the annual Senior Awards ceremony. Coordinated by the College and Career counselors, the awards gave seniors a chance to be recognized for their hard work, achievements, performances, and contributions during their years at Miramonte. The ceremony was one of many graduation celebrations to honor the Class of 2026.
Throughout the ceremony, various awards and scholarships were presented to the deserving students for their work in academics, leadership, athletics, service, and the arts. Other community organizations, such as the Rotary Club, Lions Club, AAUW, and more, awarded scholarships to seniors. School departments also recognized students in subjects, such as Math, English, Science, Computer Science, Social Studies, Engineering, Theater, Music, Visual Arts, and World Language. Seniors were also presented with National Merit recognition, the Highest Academic Honors, Principal’s Award, and VPA Distinction Awards.
This year, there was a change in time for the event; in prior years, the Senior Awards Ceremony had always taken place after school. But this year, it was moved to lunchtime instead to allow more students from other grades to watch. College and Career Advisor, Megan Buckley, was part of this year’s Senior Awards planning process. “Moving the ceremony to the school day and opening it to everyone definitely created a sense of community and excitement,” Buckley said. Buckley explained that the event also gave underclassmen a chance to see what they could one day achieve through dedication and hard work during their time at Miramonte. She also emphasized how the ceremony is a way to publicly recognize students for their accomplishments.
“Our students put in an incredible amount of dedication over their four years here,” Buckley said. “This ceremony is a meaningful way to publicly celebrate and honor those who have reached these amazing milestones.”
At the end of the event, the gym was filled with the applause and support of Miramonte students and staff. It gave the Miramonte community a chance to celebrate the graduating seniors of 2026.
