Boys Basketball:

Now in his second season at the head of the program, Coach Mike Shaughnessy guided the Matadors through a competitive winter season as the program continued to build on its foundation from previous years and form its identity. With a strong core of players such as Davi Freitas ‘27, Eli Logan ‘27, and Adam Houssami ‘27, the team has a bunch of returning players ready to take the team to a higher level next season. With notable wins over El Cerrito, Northgate, Las Lomas, and a last-second game-winning shot by Freitas against Windsor, the Mats put together an impressive record of 15-12 and finished just outside the top ten in the North Coast Section Championships (NCS) in their division. After a 73-72 loss against St. Bernard’s in the NCS playoffs, the Mats look forward to next season to get back to their goal of winning an NCS title. “Very solid season overall, we had some ups and downs throughout the season. Started off to a rough start but managed to pick up the pace and win some important league games, such as Northgate and Las Lomas. Although this season came to an unfortunate end in the first round of NCS it’s been a very big improvement since last year, and we, the team, will continue to improve,” senior Darrian Mola said.
Girls Soccer:

After a Division 3 NCS championship win in the 2023-2024 season, the girls’ soccer team remained competitive this winter, despite graduating two talented classes of seniors over the past two years. This year’s team was spread with talent all over the pitch, with Taylor Stevens ‘26 winning defensive MVP in the Diablo Athletic League (DAL), Camilla White ‘26 and Inara Inesi ‘26 winning first team all league, Eve Copeland ‘27 winning second team, and Sawyer Bohlig ‘26 being awarded an honorable mention. With this amount of talent, the team had no problem dominating. With a final record of 10-5-2, they finished third in the DAL and beat Campo in a dominating 4-1 win with a similar story against Acalanes, winning 3-0. After sweeping the cross-town rivals, the team looks to continue this domination and bring home another NCS title next year. “We did end up losing in NCS, and obviously it would have been great to make it farther in the season, but we gave it our all,” senior Camilla White said. Regardless of the loss, their standout wins against Campolindo and Acalanes were huge successes.
Girls Basketball:

The Miramonte girls basketball team entered the season with one of the most balanced rosters in the league, combining size, guard depth, and valuable varsity experience. With captain Maegan Eichenberger ‘26 leading the charge, along with Samantha Murphy ‘27 and Annelise Lindberg ‘27, the three of them led the team to a dominant season. With versatility on both ends of the floor, the Mats competed in their league standings and positioned themselves for another strong postseason push. They faced Benicia in the NCS championship at Alhambra High School and pulled off the win. “The lows of our season included playing almost a full month with only seven healthy players but the highs definitely outweighed that when we pulled through with an NCS championship. I think that this season was full of surprises, but everyone stayed locked in and made sure to play for each other, which I think is the main reason why we were able to go so far,” senior Maegan Eichenberger said.
Boys Soccer:

The Boys Soccer season was nearly perfect this year, finishing second in the league, with a record of 13-4-1 and 10-2 in the league. The team fell only to Ygnacio Valley, even though the Mats took them down 4-2 in late January. The final league standings were simply decided because Ygnacio Valley finished 10-1-1, one loss less than the Mats in the league. Under Head Coach Masood Ahmadi, the Mats showcased improved cohesion and a tighter unit through League, and built momentum as the season progressed, riding the high of their win against Campo 1-0 on Jan. 10. They pushed into the second round of NCS playoffs, and lost in a close game to San Francisco University High School, 2-0. “I think that the season went very well, we had our best record in 4 years, and made it to the division two playoffs. Our year was very successful as we got 2nd place in league and wins over Campo, Benicia twice, and our first NCS win in 4 years over Lick Wilmerding,” senior James Rogers said.
Wrestling:

Coming off a strong year that saw multiple athletes move on to compete at the NCS level, the wrestling team carried confidence into this year, along with motivation to do even better than in previous years. Upperclassman leaders, Owen Beidelman ‘26, Brody Suba ‘26, Olivia Barakeh ‘26, and Finn Hura ‘27, helped guide the younger players on the team to step into their roles and help the team. They dominated the San Ramon Valley tournament, a staple of the season, and after heading to the NCS championship, they had nine wrestlers qualify for NCS. This number of wrestlers is the most the program has qualified since 1998. “We had a massive improvement as a team, winning almost all of our duals, sending tons of kids to NCS with multiple placers. It was great,” senior Elliot Orr said. After another successful year under the head coach Louis Suba, the team looks to continue this kind of dominance and record-setting in future years.
Competitive Cheer:

Competitive cheer stayed busy all winter, while they balanced their tournament competition with their continued support for other Miramonte athletics. After placing an impressive third at JAMZ Nationals last season, they refined their routines and prepared all year for their competition season this year. They traveled again to Las Vegas this year for the JAMZ Nationals tournament, where they placed fourth overall in the tournament. “This Comp season was a lot of fun and definitely one of our best. We completed a ‘Game Day’ routine at NCS for the first time and won first place in our division. Then, we took four routines to Las Vegas for JAMZ Nationals, where we hit zero deductions and placed 4th overall,” senior Jadyne Sorenson said. The team now heads into the start of their stunt season, and they will kick it off against Campo on the 18th.
