On Friday, Oct. 3, Miramonte celebrated Halloween with activities, including a costume contest, on the quad during lunch.
At lunch, there were more activities than the typical keep-up and frisbee that are played. The addition of mummy wrapping, guess the candy in the jar, and cornhole came to the quad for the day, along with Halloween-themed music and trained therapy dogs adorned with festive costumes on the grass and in front of the Wellness Center. During the games, students and staff noticed an increased morale and unity among the student body. “It helps everyone come out of their shell… and have more fun together,” junior class president Skylar Cantando said.
On the quad, students wrapped each other in toilet paper for the mummy wrapping game, played cornhole with each other, and entered the costume contest.
Students lined up, preparing to show their costumes to the judges. The contest, conducted in rounds, included separate single costumes from duo or group costumes. In each round, students were awarded first, second, and third place, and top winners got a donut. The group costume portion was a popular round, with one group dressing as Magic Mike (rated R). “I love seeing what everyone is dressed up as, and I love talking to them; it’s really good bonding time,” freshman Bella Verrico, dressed Magic Mike in the group costume, said.
Outside of the costume contest, some common costumes seen were animals, onesies, and pirates. “When everyone is dressed up in their costumes, it brings the Halloween spirit, in turn, bringing Miramonte together,” first-year Sabrina Gotts said.
Celebrating Halloween annually gives students something to look forward to, shaking up their typical schedule to add a bit of spookiness.
