Tucked into the hills of Orinda, Wagner Ranch Elementary School has gained attention for its exceptional academic success. According to an article published by U.S. News and World Report, Wagner is ranked 25th in the Best California Elementary Schools list. Wagner’s high ranking reflects how a strong community, dedicated teachers, and high standards can create educational excellence.
Additionally, according to the ranking from the US News and World Report, 92% of Wagner Ranch students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 88% scored at or above that level for reading on state tests. These numbers lead to Wagner placing in the top 1% of all public elementary schools in California. The same article states that Miramonte is ranked 31st within California and 270th nationally which shows the educational strength of the community and high school that Wagner Ranch feeds into.
Behind these numbers is a remarkable team of dedicated educators who go above and beyond to inspire students. “During my time at Wagner I learned so much and had the best time,” sophomore Aniek Eaissman said. Wagner teachers use a blend of different teaching strategies to meet the needs of every student. The school’s focus on individualized learning ensures that each child receives the attention and support they need to thrive. Family events, school fundraisers, and volunteer programs bring people together for a shared purpose. The involvement of the community makes Wagner feel more than just school. “Our parent community plays a vital role in making this possible, whether through volunteering, supporting school events, or simply being a present and positive force in your child’s educational journey,” Principal of Wagner Eric Acosta-Verprauskus said.
Wagner values learning beyond the classroom as well. Students have access to a variety of enrichment opportunities such as art, music, and outdoor activities like gardening. The school’s location is surrounded by extensive nature that allows students to go outside and experience hands-on learning. These programs encourage creativity, curiosity, and learning beyond test scores. “Our vision extends far beyond test scores; we aim to cultivate students who contribute meaningfully to their communities and work to make the world a better place. You can feel that sense of purpose and care in every classroom and every connection across our campus,” Acosta-Verprauskus said.
With its outstanding academics and creative programs, Wagner Ranch shows what’s possible when people come together through a shared love of learning. It comes as no surprise that a small school in Orinda continues to make a big impact, one student at a time.
